| Dolomites of the Brenta Group |
Photos in this album have been shot on the Dolomites of the Brenta Group during an excursion on the “vie delle Bocchette” from Madonna di Campiglio and Molveno. The group of the Brenta Dolomites belongs to the Rhaetian Alps district. The name has been given by the French geologist, Deodat de Dolomieu, who first discovered the composition of those rocks: calcium and magnesium carbonate. The whole mountain chain is 40 km long and 12 km large. The highest peak is the Cima Tosa (3173 m). It is bounded by Valle di Sole and Val di Non in the north, whereas in the west Val Meledrio, Val Campiglio and Val Rendena separate the Brenta Group from the close Adamello-Presanella mountain massifs. Val di Non and Valle dell’Adige shut in the Brenta Group. The Bocca di Brenta divides the chain into two parts: the Sfulmini chain, the Grosté massif and the long Northern chain, with the eastern branch of the Altissimo and the Campa, in the north and the majestic massif of the Cima Tosa and the Ambiez chain in the south. The whole Brenta group offers many routes, excursions and climbing at any level, with friendly rifugios and malghe. The equipped routes at high altitudes (“vie delle Bocchette”), which winds along the several natural terraces along the slopes of the Brenta and cross the passes which opens among the peaks are worth a particular mention. Strating points for those excursions in the Brenta Dolomites are Molveno and Andalo:; from here through the Valle delle Seghe or through Pradel, the rifugios Croz dell'Altissimo, Selvata, Tosa-Pedrotti can be reached, and from here you can continue the crossing as far as Madonna di Campiglio.
